  • Legal Intake Analyst

    Melick & Porter’s Boston office is seeking a Legal Intake Analyst who will be responsible for researching and interpreting potential conflicts of interest regarding new client business. The Legal Intake Analyst will manage onboarding of new matters and work closely with firm attorneys, paralegals, and legal/billing staff to ensure our cases are set-up and managed efficiently. This position requires acute attention to detail, as well as organizational and research capabilities using online databases and legal software. This is a fulltime position that requires flexibility and teamwork. After successful onboarding, this role requires 60% in office presence; remote work is permissible 40% of the time.     Responsibilities:

    • Review new matter assignments to ensure clarity related to the Firm’s new business and existing clients’ procedures.
    • Conduct research on new assignments requests using conflicts database. Prepare summaries of research for attorney review.
    • Perform data entry and updates in the Firm’s conflict and new matter intake system.
    • Follow-up on conflict issues with attorneys and Firm management,
    • Perform new matter set-up in the Firm’s systems including allocation of attorney designations; collaborate with appropriate team members of new case assignments.
    • Contribute to process, procedures, and willingness to learn modern technology to improve efficiency.
    • Coordinate with other team members to track and meet deadlines, time-sensitive issues, and other challenges.
    • Review billing details and work closely with the billing department on updates and changes; update firm spreadsheets as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Paralegal Certificate a plus.
    • Two to three years of experience in a law firm environment; experience in civil litigation a plus.
    • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.
    • Excellent database, research, and solid computer skills; familiarity with PracticeMaster/Tabs3 a plus.
    • Excellent people skills – ability to work in a team oriented and collaborative environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate concisely, accurately, and professionally with Firm clients, attorneys, and other legal staff.
    • Comfortable in a high demand, fast paced environment.
    • Ability to take ownership and work independently to resolve issues.
    • Flexibility to manage additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

He began his legal career as an associate in the firm of Darling & McLaughlin in Burlington and was a founding partner in the Boston firm of Roche, Heifetz, Murphy & Wholley.
